The difference between computer vision and machine vision

There are differences and connections between computer vision and machine vision. Computer vision is a combination of image processing, pattern recognition and artificial intelligence technology, focusing on the computer analysis of one or more images. An image can be acquired by multiple sensors or by a single sensor at different times. The analyst recognizes the target object, determines the position and attitude of the target object, and describes and interprets the three-dimensional scene symbolically. In computer vision research, geometric models and complex knowledge representation are often used. Model-based matching and search techniques are adopted. Bottom-up, top-down, hierarchical and heuristic control strategies are often used in search strategies.

Machine vision focuses on the engineering of computer vision technology, which can automatically acquire and analyze specific images to control the corresponding behavior. Specifically, computer vision provides the theoretical and algorithmic basis of image and scene analysis for machine vision, and machine vision provides sensor model, system construction and implementation means for the realization of computer vision. Therefore, it can be considered that a machine vision system is a system that can automatically acquire one or more images of target objects, process, analyze and measure the various features of the acquired images, and make qualitative analysis and quantitative interpretation of the measurement, so as to obtain some knowledge of the target objects and make corresponding decisions. Functions include: object location, feature detection, defect judgment, target recognition, counting and motion tracking.
