Intelligent Intelligence Professional Ranking in Chinese Universities

In July 2017, the State Council promulgated the New Generation of Artificial Intelligence Development Plan, which clearly put forward the requirements of "setting up the specialty of artificial intelligence" and "broadening the educational content of the specialty of artificial intelligence on the original basis". In April 2018, the Ministry of Education issued the Action Plan for Artificial Intelligence Innovation in Colleges and Universities, which takes improving the talent training system in the field of Artificial Intelligence as one of the three major tasks. With the development of AI to the national strategy, AI has become the hottest "hot" specialty in college entrance examination voluntary choice. Yunneng Innovation ranks 72 newly-established AI colleges and universities in China from four dimensions: international influence, scientific research strength, talent output and innovation vitality, and deeply interprets the real level and development potential of AI specialty in Chinese universities.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a new technological science that studies and develops theories, methods, technologies and application systems for simulating, extending and expanding human intelligence. Research in this field includes robotics, language recognition, image recognition, natural language processing, etc. With the arrival of the era of big data, artificial intelligence has become a new technology leading the future. The United States is the first country in the world to raise AI to a strategic level. Britain, Germany, France, Korea, Japan and other countries have also issued AI-related strategies. China has issued a series of policies from the central government to the local government in an attempt to dominate the new round of scientific and technological competition.

Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, once said when he suggested college students to choose their major: If I enter university now, my preferred major will be artificial intelligence. Because the future must be the era of artificial intelligence, young people can obtain broad prospects for common development with the times and society.

I. Talent Demand and Employment Prospect of Artificial Intelligence Specialty

1. Artificial Intelligence Specialty: Good Prospect and Shortage of Talents

According to industry experts, by 2020, the scale of China's AI industry will exceed 150 billion yuan, and the scale of related industries will exceed 1 trillion yuan. Some IT giants, such as Baidu, Google, Xunfei, Alibaba and Tencent, have invested more and more in the development of AI technology. But at the same time, the gap of artificial intelligence talents in China has exceeded 5 million people, the ratio of supply and demand is 1:10.

2. Large talent gap and high salary level

In the final analysis, the core of AI competition is talent competition. At present, BAT, Huawei and other giants, as well as new AI unicorns such as Shangtang, have a huge demand for AI talents. The research of WTW, a global consulting company, shows that AI and big data are the two highest-paid professional fields. Graduates in AI field have finished their jobs in other fields with the same degree. For students, the average wage is 35% to 50% higher. According to the "AI Competitiveness Report" issued by GMIC Beijing 2018, the average annual salary in the field of artificial intelligence is about 330,000, steadily exceeding the average level of the Internet industry.

In November 2018, the First Finance and Economics Daily posted a message that 800,000 AI R&D personnel were recruited. According to industry insiders, the salary level of this post in 2017 was still around 500,000, which increased by 300,000 a year. This shows that the profession is very short of talents and the market supply gap is very large, which will lead to heavy cash digging in enterprises. According to Tiger Sniff. com, from 2016 to 2017, the ratio of AI jobs to job seekers actually declined, from 2.6 job seekers to 1.3 job seekers. The breadth and depth of application of artificial intelligence are constantly increasing, the scale of industry is getting larger and larger, and the demand for talents is increasing sharply. It is not surprising that some people describe the profession as being in the wind, and that there are amazing salaries.

2. Comprehensive Evaluation of Four Dimensions of Artificial Intelligence Major in Chinese Universities

1. Comprehensive Strength

Yunneng Innovation collected data from 72 AI universities offering AI, data science and related specialties such as AI, AI science and technology in relevant fields, including the number of papers, patents (2008-2018) and 745 graduate schools of core human capital of AI enterprises in China. The weights of the four dimensions are 0.2930, 0.1872, 0.1080 and 0.4118, respectively. Accordingly, the 72 universities were ranked comprehensively, and a list of the comprehensive strength of AI specialty of Chinese universities was formed (Table 1).
