Grand Union University Youshang Group launched 65W PD power adapter solution based on ON Semiconductor products

On May 12, 2021, the leading semiconductor component distributor dedicated to the Asia-Pacific region---Lianda Holdings announced that its subsidiary Youshang has launched a 65W PD power supply based on ON Semiconductor's high-frequency quasi-resonant NCP1342 Adapter scheme.

Power adapters occupies a considerable space in electronic products. In the past period of time, people have used silicon as a material to reduce product size. However, as the market’s demand for high power density has increased, silicon materials have Under the existing size specifications, it is no longer possible to output higher power at the required frequency. Therefore, GaN has become the material of choice for high-power adapters. The 65W PD power adapter solution based on ON Semiconductor's high-frequency quasi-resonant NCP1342, which is launched by Dalian Dayoushang, combined with Innosecco's GaN MOS, can ensure product miniaturization and at the same time have more power.

GaN is known as the third-generation semiconductor material. The electron mobility is much higher than that of silicon, and the output capacitance is much smaller than that of silicon. This makes it have a wide band gap characteristic, which can enable the power supply design to reach higher power density and efficiency levels. This reduces switching loss and conduction loss, supports higher switching frequencies, and helps to achieve higher power and small-size power supply designs.

In addition, the core device in this solution is ON Semiconductor's high-frequency quasi-resonant NCP1342, which has a proprietary valley lock circuit to ensure stable valley switching. In design, NCP1342 uses minimum peak current modulation (MPCM) to quickly reduce the switching frequency to ensure light-load performance for high-frequency designs. Not only that, NCP1342 also has several key protection circuits built-in to ensure robust converter performance.
